OOooohhh I had a very good time!

Well, I hate that the movie is taking place on the actual Shinjuku instead of the 80s one, because Tsukasa Hojo was always very true with the age of his characters, but if you make some concessions, it's a very good movie.

Let's read your review Syldana.

Vladimir Cosma's best of

"Les compères" is still my favourite song from Vladimir Cosma, but I would like to add another song to this list:

Vladimir Cosma was totally out of his comfort zone for "La Boum" 1 and 2 and he still managed to create an astonishing work.

Special Evening with Vladimir Cosma In The Eldorado Theater

This Wednesday, the Eldorado theater in Dijon (France) had the privilege to present music composer Vladimir Cosma, for an event evening dedicated to his career. A talented violinist himself, long-time collaborator with filmmakers Yves Robert, Claude Zidi or GĂ©rard Oury, Cosma has signed the soundtracks from many timeless classics, from The Party to The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe, Knock on Wood or The Dinner Game.

Organized by Philippe Gonin, Senior lecturer in musicology, the evening begins with a short concert. Indeed, four musicology students, Katie, Anne-Elisabeth, Elodie and Adèle, made their instruments speak in order to replay some cult pieces from Vladimir Cosma's career. The composer then returned to the room to the applause of the audience.
The latter was then lent to an exchange hosted by Séverine Abhervé, Doctor of Cinema. Tvore has detached for you the synthesis and analysis below.

1) Arranger for Michel Legrand
Upon his arrival in France, Vladimir Cosma began as an arranger in the service of the renowned professional and composer Michel Legrand, who lacked the time to do all the work that was entrusted to him. The young Vladimir Cosma will thus work as a good second for 5 years, accumulating a varied experience with a man he loved very much. A positive experience that he advises all young people entering the profession: learning alongside someone from the community brings knowledge that cannot be learned on the school bench.

2) Beginning of solo career
One day, Michel Legrand received a call from Yves Robert who offered him to work on his next film, but he refused because he was about to leave for several months to work in the United States. Desperate, Yves Robert asked him if his "little young man" would not be available, but Michel Legrand replied that no, he was going with him to the United States. Vladimir Cosma is saddened by this missed opportunity and insists on joining Michel Legrand, promising him that he will join him in the United States as soon as the project is finished "I would love to make this film". Finally, his mentor answers the phone, calls Yves Robert and says, "I'll give you a gift." Thus Vladimir Cosma obtained his first soundtrack signed for the film Very Happy Alexander.

3) Finding your way
Vladimir Cosma did have his style, but it had been put at the service of Michel Legrand and could thus be assimilated to him. In fact, how do you find your way? How can we ensure that the public would never say "he does Michel Legrand?” The young composer's idea was to propose musical themes revolving around a solo instrument. A strong instrument, which stands out from the crowd, producing a melody that remains in memory. He imported the pan flute from his native country to compose the main theme of the film The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe. But here it is, originally, he was asked for a toupee of the James Bond theme and he was then particularly out of the scope of the request. When the film was shown in camera to the bigwigs around the film, the atmosphere was gloomy, and scriptwriter Francis Veber felt that the problem came precisely from this pan flute. Shot down, Vladimir Cosma did not sleep at night. The next day, the director Yves Robert called him to discuss the famous theme and asked Vladimir Cosma what he thought of it. The composer didn't deny it "If you want me to make you a James Bond toupee, I will, but according to me it's with the pan flute that the film works". After reflection, Yves Robert took the side of his composer and left the tape unchanged. When it was released, the film was a huge success and its music marked the history of soundtracks. Obviously, this did not affect the agreement between Vladimir Cosma and Francis Veber either, since they would collaborate again on other films later.

4) Music in freewheel mode
For Vladimir Cosma, it is obvious that music can have a life beyond the film for which it was composed. Some films may be forgotten as their soundtracks survive. They then acquire a life of their own.

5) Giving depth
Vladimir Cosma has always refused to be seen as a humorous film composer. He hates the term "comedy music" and has never sought to create this kind of music. Whatever scene he had to accompany musically, even if it was a funny scene, the composer systematically sought to develop depth. No crazy, no burlesque, always with feelings.
Despite everything, prejudice is hard to overcome. Vladimir Cosma remembers being mediated as making "Prisunic music". Despised, never serious enough.
Fortunately, time transcends stereotypes and its work is now recognized worldwide. Played in concerts, his music has conquered new generations, confirming Vladimir Cosma's status as a master of the genre.

Our next news on music will be focused on Paul Misraki.

INTERVIEW: The X-Files Virtual Season Producer

The X-Files last season ended last year on FOX. While the two-seasons revival started with groundbreaking ratings, the anticipation faded away and the number of viewers decreased over time. Simultaneously, lead actress Gillian Anderson announced that the 11th season would be her last, after having spent more than two decades portraying FBI Special Agent Dana Scully.
While the series showrunner Chris Carter first said he would never continue the series without her, he then changed his mind and announced that he would be willing to continue the series without her, making her an "absent center", similar to when David Duchovny left the series but was still a major part of the story in the series' ninth season.

But since then, Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, including the FOX network and now owns The X-Files franchise. The X-Files no longer being the money machine it once was, it is unsure if there would be an appetite from the studio to continue the series at present. What may probably happen, years from now, is either a reboot or a soft reboot, a continuation of the series but with a brand new era, similar to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

But in this situation, what do the admirers from the saga do? Do they simply rewatch endlessly their favorite episodes? Is there more? Is the truth still out there?
A small group of fans decided to fight the future and continue the search for the truth with the production and release of a virtual season. Simply titled "The X-Files: Virtual Season 12", the group published their virtual season in a rather original form of scripts.

Published on their site Virtualseasons.x-sites as well as tvore's fanfics section, the twelve episodes became a success in The X-Files fandom, with over thousands of readers across the globe.

Following this well-deserved success, we teamed up with Adam Silva, the leader of the project, for an exclusive interview.

How did the idea of producing a virtual season come to fruition? Can you briefly introduce yourself and the team ?

- My name is Adam Silva and I’m a long-time X-Files fan ever since I was eight-years-old and saw the Pilot when it first aired in 1993, so I really grew up with it. I got the idea for a “virtual season” from fans of Millennium who carried on the series after its sudden cancellation with what they called Virtual Season 4. They wrote their “episodes” in script format. That’s very unique to fan fiction, which normally hadn’t interested me. I thought it would be fun to do the same thing for The X-Files after season 11 ended, since it’s most likely the last season. Looking for other interested writers, I posted on the Facebook group for The X-Cast: An X-Files Podcast, which is the main fan discussion group I’m a part of. Luckily, there were a few that wanted in. Namely, Michael Little, Stephen Lovins, Valerie Kelly, and South Thompson. Paislie Hedley also volunteered to do art work for our episodes, which was great. I was the “executive producer” of sorts, but it became a very collaborative group where everyone had input. Though we live in different places we have all become friends.

Collectively, what was the feedback on The X-Files revival (seasons 10 and 11) in the team?

- I think our group is reflective of the larger fan base where we liked the revival seasons to varying degrees. None of us had an extremely negative opinion, which I don’t think would have been helpful to our project.

Regarding the content, I liked how you manage to introduce back the character of John Doggett. How difficult was it to integrate the character ?

- We all love him. He’s the main character we wanted to bring back because he didn’t get to appear in the revival due to Robert Patrick’s scheduling conflicts. I’m told he’s the best character I write for, actually. It’s easy for me to find his “voice.”

You made an interesting choice writing episodes exaclty like scripts. Seems very challenging. Readers has responded positively ?

- Yes, I think most readers enjoy it. Scripts make it feel like an actual episode, as opposed to the normal format of fan fiction. And I find it preferable as far as my own writing.

Following the success of the 12th season, do you plan to produce a new virtual season?

- We are in the very early stages of something. It’s not a continuation of season 12, but it’s X-Files related.

What are your favorite shows besides The X-Files?

- Current favorite shows would be Better Call Saul, Star Trek: Discovery, American Horror Story, and the new Twilight Zone. All-time favorites besides The X-Files would include Breaking Bad, Millennium, and Fringe.

If you haven't read The X-Files: Virtual Season 12, here are the links to each of the twelve episodes:
Episode 1: Resurgence
Episode 2: Moloch
Episode 3: Graceland
Episode 4: Julieta
Episode 5: Clown Car

Episode 7: Y
Episode 8: Mauvaise Eau
Episode 9: Tik-Tik
Episode 10: The Plains
Episode 11: Even
Episode 12: Person or Persons Unknown
Episode 13: Reckoning

Slayers New Novel Series: Everything We Know So Far

As we previously announced, Slayers is back with a third part of its novel saga.
After a 16th novel following the events of the Main Novel Series, what can we expect for this new Novel Series?

Here are the first answers from Kanzaka himself taken from an interview with the last Dragon Magazine:

Kanzaka explicitly says that he imagines this third part to be a parallel adventure in the same vein as Try and Knight of Aqualord.
He describes it as a sprawling adventure that can't be limited to just one book. Lina and Gourry will make new encounters, travel to unknown lands, and butt heads with new magical organizations.

He also mentioned that he'd stumbled upon one of the truths of the world after he'd published the latest novel: that a novelist who doesn't write novels is just "an unemployed bum."

Details will be forthcoming in later issues of Dragon Magazine.

We use this opportunity to thank our old friend Rebmatsu.

On another Slayers note, the visual of the Slayers Next Bluray Box was revealed. You can see it below:

Is there so much sex in the GoT original books?

Yep, it's a saga for adults, so it contains sex scenes. But probably less than the TV show (4 or 5 scenes on 1000 pages against 4 or 5 scenes on 10 episodes, it is not the same ratio). Sex is the cheaper way to finish an episode. "Damn, this one is only 38 minutes, let's add some sex scenes".

Gruic May 9, 2019, 11:05 ET

Where does Game of Thrones stop following the books?

It's a question of budget, actors, possibilities etc.

It's more easier and cheaper to create characters like Rose to do more sex scenes and less Ghost scenes, of course. Some people died in the show and stay alive in the book, yare yare daze...

And it is 2 different medias, so 2 different way to work.

That said, at the end of A Dance With Dragons, Jon Snow is kinda dead, so everything after that is taking place after the books, so a creation for the show.

And I'm an old Martin fan and reader and I'm not watching the show. I like the characters the way I imagine them, so please don't tell me what happened to them on the TV show.
