Why Was The Last of Us Part II Delayed?

Six years. The fans of the video game The Last of Us are waiting for their sequel since six years. The Last of Us Part II was originally intended to be released in February 2020. Instead of that, admirers of Ellie and Joel will have to wait an additional three months in order to learn what happened to their favorite characters.

Pressured to report about this delay, game studio Naughty Dog explained that they had two choices: "At this point we were faced with two options,” game director Neil Druckmann writes, “compromise parts of the game or get more time. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.”

The Last of Us Part II will be released on May 29, 2020. That leaves us plenty of time to revisit The Last of Us as well as The Last of Us: Left Behind, the prequel expansion pack.
