In the year 50 BC, Gaul is occupied by the Romans - nearly. But the small village of Asterix and his friends still resists the Roman legions with the aid of their druid's magic potion, which gives superhuman strength. Learning of this potion, a Roman centurion kidnaps the druid to get the secret formula out of him.
Astérix comes to life!

I really liked this very first Astérix animation movie. I think it really perfectly recreated the atmosphere of the comic book, the same way the main Tintin adventures series captured the eponymous saga.
In Asterix the Gaul, the characters are true to the comic book. Both Astérix and Obélix are the same and their voices are simply per-fect. Second, the story is fun and the dialogue is really, really funny.
Also, the music theme is really great and catchy.
While the second half of the film is not as exciting, I still think it is a great adaptation, even more knowing that it was released in 1967.
